Wells Fargo mortgage loans jump 114 percent from 2001 - 2003-02-17
Lending exploded through the roof at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage operations in St. Louis in 2002.

The company originated and closed $606 million in home loans in the St. Louis area last year, a 114 percent jump from 2001.

Ten other top local mortgage lenders posted increases in loan volume ranging from just under 4 percent to 52.5 percent in 2002.

The most prominent displays adorning Streusand's office walls at his Houston mortgage banking firm are a photograph of Winston Churchill and a signed letter to a brigadier general from the legendary British prime minister. Joining the pieces of Churchill history at Streusand's north Houston offices is a 93-year-old letter to another military figure from former President Theodore Roosevelt.
