Numerous Houston home builders and mortgage companies, taking advantage of cheap interest rates, are targeting potential buyers who desire, for the first time, to take the big step to home ownership. People who have been living in apartments or renting have become hot prospects.

Some of these potential buyers, however, have compiled credit histories that don't make them the ideal candidates for a mortgage.
