UK house prices increase 14% in year - 2003-09-15
House prices in the UK have surged 14.6 per cent in the last year to July, according to a new government index published today.
The figures, released by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minster, are based on around a quarter of all properties bought with a mortgage each month.
The move follows calls from the Bank of England and the Treasury for an official monthly house price index, in an aim to provide a clearer picture of the market.
