Housing Construction Drops in August - 2003-09-17
Housing construction decreased last month but still stayed close to a 17-year high, a sign that a recent upward swing in mortgage rates has done little damage to the resilient housing market.

Builders broke ground on 1.82 million housing units at a seasonally adjusted annual rate in August, a 3.8 percent drop from the previous month, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday.

WaMu settles mortgage service suit - 2003-09-17
Washington Mutual agreed to help solve the account problems of individual customers who said the bank lost mortgage payments, imposed erroneous fees and mishandled payment of property taxes.

In a settlement with three law firms representing about 1,000 customers, WaMu agreed to hear the individual complaints and review any disputes. WaMu will take steps to correct account problems on a case-by-case basis.
