Home Purchase Applications Up as Interest Rates Continue to Drop in Latest MBA Survey - 2003-09-17
The Mortgage Bankers Association of America today disclosed its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending September 12. The Market Composite Index of mortgage loan applications – a measure of mortgage loan applications for purchases and refinancings – decreased by 5.8 percent to 726.7 on a seasonally adjusted basis from 771.8 one week earlier.

The MBA seasonally adjusted Purchase Index increased by 5.8 percent to 432.4 from 408.8 the previous week.

100 bucks will secure affordable housing - 2003-09-17
A simple hundred dollars could jump-start the construction on some much-needed affordable housing, speeding up the groundbreaking at the old Stock Island dog track by a good 60 days.

The Monroe County Land Authority has already committed to a $1.5 million, 50-year, no-interest mortgage for the Meridian West affordable housing project. Now the Monroe County Commission is being asked to approve a "placeholder" mortgage of $100 to ensure that other financing will close on time.
