Graduates better at paying off loans - 2003-09-17
The default rate on federally supported college loans reached an all-time low during the 2001 fiscal year, the Education Department said Tuesday.

A Cambridge Consumer Credit Index survey issued this month found outstanding college debt hampered the ability of 68 percent of graduates with student loans to make major purchases like homes or automobiles.

Property boom sparks fears - 2003-09-17
The housing bubble and higher household debt could create future problems for the economy, Opposition treasury spokesman Mark Latham said today.

Treasury head Ken Henry yesterday said the housing bubble and rising household debt were key risks to Australia's economic performance, admitting Treasury had been caught offguard by the strength of the property boom.
