Houston mortgage brokerage company bought - 2004-01-16
Dallas-based mortgage banking company Availent Financial Inc. declared Thursday the purchase of substantially all of the assets of First Texas Residential, a Houston based mortgage brokerage operation.

The purchase price was not disclosed. But Availent said the price was substantially paid with a promissory note that matures on Feb. 1, 2004, with one 30-day extension at the sole option of Availent.

HUD helps WIN group - 2004-01-16
Until recently, Ginger Ferguson believed the worst was about to happen for many of the 150 people countywide residing in homes leased through the When In Need (WIN) program and then rented according to income.

The coalition is asking for donations to help tide over the program, which provides both transitional and permanent housing for the disabled and other eligible clients. The money is used for utility payments, rent and mortgage assistance.
