Father to sell kidney - 2004-01-03
A man who placed his kidney up for sale to help his handicapped daughter intends to go to the US to meet three people who have offered to buy it.
Peter Randall, from Sevenoaks, is to have tests to see if he is a compatible donor for the potential buyers.

He said: "The house I live in is not mine to re-mortgage and the funds that we did have have been dwindled away on the therapies that we've given Alice over the last two or three years.

Bankruptcy filings down slightly - 2004-01-03
Last year, there was a slight decrease in bankruptcy filings, pushing Guam out as the U.S. district with the highest percentage increase in bankruptcy filings nationwide.

Botha said that out of the 40 bankruptcy cases he has worked on for 2003, most of them were filings by consumers and small businesses. "Mom-and-pop stores are on shaky ground," Botha said. "But I would say more of them are consumer debts. It's kind of a combination of car loans and mortgage loans."
