Would-be landlords must be aware of law - 2004-01-04
The realty listing promoted it as "so much house for the money," and Alma Purcell was convinced.

She plunked all her savings on the down payment, about $44,000. She planned to help cover the cost -and cushion her old age - by renting part of the house as a separate apartment. That was in November. Today, Purcell said she can no longer afford the mortgage and could lose the house to foreclosure this month.
