Low interest rates have inspired many people to go from being tenants to first-time homeowners, McDonald said.

"Why pay someone else's mortgage when you can own your own home? And there are so many zero-down programs. You can get in for nothing," McDonald said.

Ryan looks to improve region's economic climate - 2004-01-05
Creation of meaningful jobs will be a top preoccupation of Frank X. Ryan if he is chosen to represent the 17th U.S. Congressional District.

"What we want to have are more mortgage-paying jobs ... so people can make mortgage payments and strive," he said before getting back aboard his bus, which pulled onto the lot at 1:30 p.m. Saturday
