Analysts not worried of mortgage rates - 2004-01-09
Mortgage rates inched up again this week, with the 30-year rate climbing to the highest level in almost a month. But even with the modest rise, rates still are low enough to keep the housing market healthy, analysts said.

The average rate on 30-year mortgages rose to 5.87 percent, up from 5.85 percent last week, Freddie Mac, the mortgage giant, said yesterday in its weekly nationwide survey of mortgage rates.

Gail Thornton knows intimately that 2003 was a very strong year for home sales in South Sound.
Thornton learned the hard way that prices are on the rise, averaging $188,870 for the year.

Low interest rates helped bring more buyers to the market. The rates have climbed somewhat but are still attractive, Adams said. The average rate on 30-year mortgages rose to 5.87 percent this week, up from 5.85 percent last week.
