The dream of owning your first house is becoming more of a dream than reality for young people.
A survey by Halifax shows house prices in Notts rose by 18% last year - higher than the national average.
Figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders saw a record low in the number of first-time buyers last year, 330,540 - a fall of nearly 200,000 on 2002.
Although there are no local figures, one city centre mortgage said they were dealing with fewer first-time buyers at the moment.
