Commonwealth Bank doubles first-half profit - 2004-02-11
Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the nation's biggest mortgage lender and largest investment manager, said Wednesday that first-half profit doubled as home loans increased and stock markets rebounded.

Net income rose to 1.24 billion Australian dollars, or $967 million, in the half that ended Dec. 31, from 622 million dollars in the year-earlier period.
