Habitat group sets bar high - 2004-02-14
Most people know that Habitat For Humanity constructs houses for people. They've seen photos of the organization's most famous volunteers, former President Jimmy and first lady Rosalynn Carter, with paint brush or hammer in hand, working diligently.
Partner families, those having homes built, invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving "Fund for Humanity" that is used to build more houses.
