‘LIFETIME’ MORTGAGE RISE COULD MEAN DANGER FOR UNPROTETCED BORROWERS - 2004-02-16
The Council of Mortgage Lenders today indicated that ‘Lifetime’ mortgage lending increased by nearly 69% in 2003. Commenting, Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, said:

"Because of Treasury incompetence ‘lifetime’ borrowers who took out loans in 2002 and 2003 will not be protected by mortgage regulation.

"Should house prices fall many mainly elderly people will find themselves in serious difficulties and with no protection."

Fulton County mortgage tax increase - 2004-02-16
Fulton County's mortgage tax could be increasing. The Fulton County Board of Supervisors formally asked for special action through the state Legislature to increase the tax.

The board is hoping the special legislation will help raise money to offset operations. The county hopes to raise more than $100,000 for half of the year.
