Don't be a victim of mortgage loan scam - 2004-02-21
Homeowners can lose not only their money but also their houses if they fall for a "home improvement" loan scam, consumer advocates declare.

The scam targets those who don't understand the home mortgage lending process or who think they can get something -- a new roof or kitchen -- for just about nothing, meaning less than what they are currently paying in mortgage payments.

One in Eight New U.K. Homebuyers Worry About Acquisition: Survey - 2004-02-21
One in eight home buyers in the U.K. during the past year are worried they made the wrong acquisition, according to a survey commissioned by Alliance & Leicester Plc, the U.K.'s eighth-biggest bank.

The average mortgage price for first-time buyers has reached 117,600 pounds ($221,511), 12 percent more than at the end of 2000, said the bank, in a statement on its Web site.
