Banks, Latinos in Pennsylvania Build Mutual Interests - 2004-02-22
Few things are more vital to a financial institution than the bottom line. And nothing is more obvious and attractive to banks and credit unions than the Census data on Latino population growth.

M&T Bank, like many other financial institutions, provides brochures and Web-site information in Spanish. Last August, the Buffalo, N.Y.-based bank moved one of its midstate branch employees, Evelyn Rivera, into a new job as mortgage loan originator for Latino applicants.

Hope for renters with on-time payments - 2004-02-22
Michael G. Nathans has long believed that renters in this country are treated as second-class credit citizens.

Millions of folks pay their rent on time, and yet when it's time for them to get a mortgage, all those on-time payments aren't part of the all-important score that lenders use to determine who to grant credit and at what price.
