George Wimpey, one of Britain’s top housebuilders, has generated record profits as the country’s housing boom continued throughout 2003.

Some analysts expect the UK property market to cool this year, but the British Bankers’ Association said last week that January mortgage lending still rose at its fastest pace since November 2001.

Adjustable-rate mortgages attract home buyers - 2004-02-25
Continuing a trend, the percentage of home buyers opting for adjustable-rate mortgages in January climbed slightly in much of California and the Sacramento region.

Statewide, 54.6 percent of all buyers used an adjustable-rate mortgage in January - the highest rate since early 1995. The percentage was up slightly from 53.1 percent in December and up sharply compared with 29.8 percent a year earlier, reported DataQuick Information Systems.
