Bank rapped over mortgage letter - 2004-02-25
The Halifax bank has got their knuckles rapped by the advertising watchdog over a "misleading" mailing to customers.

The mailshot, sent to 120,000 mortgage holders with subsidiary Intelligent Finance, asked customers to reveal details of their contents insurance.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld a complaint that Halifax had "no good reason" to request details of customers' contents insurance.

Judge Throw Out Challenge to BOA Merger - 2004-02-25
A federal judge has threw out a lawsuit brought by Native Hawaiians against the Federal Reserve Board seeking to stop Bank of America's merger with FleetBoston, saying he lacked jurisdiction to decide the case.

The plaintiffs had wanted the judge to require the board to block the merger on the grounds that Bank of America failed to comply with commitments it had made to provide mortgage financing for Native Hawaiians.
