Freddie Mac Total Mortgage Portfolio Higher - 2004-02-27
Freddie Mac, the No. 2 U.S. mortgage finance company, on Friday revealed its January total mortgage portfolio rose at an annual rate of 10.1 percent to $1.4 trillion.

The housing agency also said Freddie Mac's retained portfolio declined at an annual rate of 8.9 percent to $639.6 billion.

That is the third consecutive month in which the company's book of retained investment has decreased.

30-year mortgage rates steady, others mixed - 2004-02-27
Rates on benchmark 30-year mortgages stayed steady at a seven-month low this week, while rates for other types of mortgages were mixed.

The average rate on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages was 5.58 percent, unchanged from the previous week, which had marked the lowest rate since 5.52 percent for the week ending July 11, Freddie Mac, the mortgage giant, reported Thursday in its weekly nationwide survey of mortgage rates.
