Suncorp in record earnings spree - 2004-02-27
A strong result driven by healthy general insurance earnings and better investment returns has prompted Suncorp Metway to boost its full-year earnings expectations.

The bank had also resisted using mortgage brokers, but now accepted the channel was vital for growth.

The wealth management arm doubled earnings to $36 million compared with the previous corresponding period.

Settlement comes from lawsuit alleging mortgage-loan fraud - 2004-02-27
A total of 240 homeowners from Whatcom County and surrounding areas have been notified they qualify for loan fee refunds and lowered mortgage interest rates under the terms of a tentative legal settlement between disgruntled borrowers and Household International, a nationwide loan company.

But Wenatchee attorney Bob Parlette said there might be more people entitled to participate in the deal.
