Local mortgage rates drop; 1-year ARM below 3 percent - 2004-02-27
Mortgage rates in metro Atlanta were modestly lower, with the rate on the one-year adjustable rate mortgage dipping below 3 percent for the first time since BankRate.com began its weekly surveys of area lenders in 1990.

The average rate for a 30-year loan was 5.23 percent, down from 5.24 percent last week. A 15-year mortgage averaged 4.55 percent this week, up slightly from 4.56 percent last week.

Refinancings Stay in Play in Central Florida as Low Rates Continue - 2004-02-27
The party was supposed to be finishing up by now, but with interest rates continuing to confound economists, home refinancings are chugging along at an unexpected pace.

The dance continues because mortgage rates have refused to edge higher as expected, hovering well below 6 percent this year. This week, the average national rate for the 30-year fixed-rate loan was 5.58 percent.
