Delaware houses sizzle - 2004-02-29
Housing prices in Delaware have climbed so dramatically in the past four years that some prospective home buyers now are wondering whether prices are at risk of dropping once mortgage interest rates start to rise.

Don't bet the ranch house, said economists, real estate agents and recent home buyers. Low supply and high demand are expected to push house prices up nationally by an average of 4 percent to 6 percent annually over the next 10 years.l

Appraisals are behind in a hot market - 2004-02-29
Kathleen Carney's real estate deal was going well --a bit too well. She listed her 2,700-square-foot home in the Boca Chase development west of Boca Raton in December for $359,000. Within five days, she had several offers, and a bidding war erupted.

Then the appraisal, completed as part of the buyer's mortgage application, came in -- for $315,000. Shocked, the Carneys and their real estate agent hired another appraiser for a second opinion. That appraisal came in for $335,000.
