FIRST-TIMERS TAKING RISKS - 2004-02-07
First-time buyers are taking a risky approach as they become increasingly desperate to jump on the property ladder, it is being claimed.

They are less likely to have a survey done, take out a fixed rate mortgage or make an offer below the asking price.

The findings are contained in a survey from Yorkshire Bank.

Hawaiian group back in court over lapsed mortgage promise - 2004-02-07
A group of Native Hawaiians has gone to federal court in an attempt to have Bank of America fulfill a 10-year-old pledge to make $150 million available in mortgage loans to Native Hawaiians after a lending dispute.

The lawsuit, filed yesterday in U.S. District Court, names Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan and board members. It seeks a court order that the board halt the bank's proposed merger with FleetBoston Financial Corp. until the pledge has been fulfilled.
