Economy Canada-Optimism refuses to subside in housing - 2004-02-08
Jacqueline, a single, 30-something professional, has been searching fruitlessly for a house for the past six months.

And defying the old adage that what goes up must come down, most economists see only a slight cooling this year -- largely because already low mortgage rates are likely to go lower yet.

That would be a good thing for the Canadian economy, though not necessarily for house hunters looking for a price break.

What homeowners should be aware of at tax time - 2004-02-08
There are times when you're not happy that you're a homeowner -- like when your roof's leaking. But being a homeowner is usually good news at tax time because of the deductions you get.

Also keep the closing statement when you refinance a mortgage. If you pay points when you refinance, you can deduct them, too, spread over the term of the new loan.
