Home price rise hits affordability - 2004-03-11
First home buyers are finding it more difficult to purchase a house with housing affordability dropping to a record low of 8.4 per cent in Australia and 9 per cent in Brisbane.
With a jump in house prices of 6 per cent, mortgage repayments have risen to $1995 a month, up 51.3 per cent on the year before. In Queensland, affordability dropped 9.2 per cent as prices increased 6 per cent.
