Report asks for 'fairer mortgages' - 2004-03-12
A government report today asks mortgage lenders to provide fairer products, including long-term, fixed rate loans.

Commissioned by Gordon Brown in the last Budget, the review of the UK mortgage market was carried out by Professor David Miles, who sought to find out why more people in the UK did not opt for mortgages with a fixed rate of interest for the term of the loan.

Record low adjustable-rate mortgages hits 3.41 percent - 2004-03-12
A weaker-than-expected jobs report that started a big rally in the bond market dragged mortgage rates down this week to levels not seen since last summer.

The national average interest rate on a 30-year, fixed mortgage fell to 5.41 percent from 5.59 percent a week earlier. That was the lowest since July 3, 2003.
