Mortgage lenders faced tough new restrictions today after a Government-backed investigation found they are overcharging their most loyal customers.

A report ordered by Chancellor Gordon Brown demanded a ban on cheap interest rate deals targeted only at first-time buyers but denied to others.

Hawaii lenders offer 5% mortgages - 2004-03-12
Home mortgage rates have plummeted sharply, approaching the historic lows of last year, due to weak employment data on the mainland, Freddie Mac reported Thursday.

Hawaii's largest lenders cut their 30-year fixed-rate loan quotes to a range of 5 percent to 5 1/8 percent, only a week after quoting 5 1/4 percent to 5 3/8 percent, the Honolulu Board of Realtors reported Friday.
