Mortgage rates approaches record low - 2004-03-13
If you missed the opportunity to acquire or refinance at the lowest mortgage rates in a lifetime last summer, you might be in luck. After a string of lukewarm economic reports, mortgage interest rates once again are teetering near record lows, and a refinance surge could be on the way.

On Friday afternoon, mortgage rates at some Twin Cities area lenders had fallen to within an eighth of a percentage point of their rock-bottom lows of June 2003.

END OF THE SUPER LOW HOME LOANS? - 2004-03-13
Extremely low mortgage rates could be phased out under a restructuring of the way lenders operate, it emerged yesterday.

A Government study called for a ban on mortgage firms using their standard borrowers to subsidise eye-catching deals.

Professor David Miles, the report's author, said homeowners attached too much importance to initial monthly repayments.
