FIXED-RATE MORTGAGE DEALS BEST - 2004-03-13
Encouraging more home buyers to choose fixed-rate mortgages will make the system function better, Chancellor Gordon Brown was told yesterday. A new report on the mortgage market said special deals for new borrowers should be outlawed as they hit other customers.

The UK is unique in Europe for the high number of people who own their own homes rather than rent, and for the emphasis on variable rate mortgages.

Habitat, others to construct two homes in 2004 - 2004-03-13
Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County is teaming up with several local entities to construct two new houses this year.

Habitat homeowners are selected by their need for housing, ability to repay a no-profit, no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat. Mortgage payments contribute to a fund, which in turn, provides the money to build more houses.
