U.S. mortgage market mixed as prepay worries percolates - 2004-03-18
U.S. mortgage-backed securities prices were flat to weaker, while spreads were mixed early on Thursday as investors closely monitored U.S. Treasury yields for any drop that could further inflame prepayment worries.

"The Treasury market does not want to go down (in price), making the mortgage market jittery," said David Brownlee, portfolio manager at National Life Capital Management Co. in Montpelier, Vermont.

IRS looks at home-office deductions - 2004-03-18
One of the most highly treasured tax deductions for a small business owner is for a home office. It's also an issue filled with anxiety, because home office deductions have a reputation of being triggers for an IRS audit.

Once business owners have established that they're eligible for a home office deduction, they should carefully examine their records to be sure they include all the expenses the IRS allows. It's not just mortgage payments and utilities that qualify.
