BB&T slashes its 2004 profit forecast - 2004-03-20
BB&T Corp., the North Carolina bank that's growing in Florida, cut its 2004 earnings outlook Friday.

The bank said profits would slide because of a downturn in mortgage lending.

"Fluctuations in interest rates are producing unexpected pressure on mortgage banking operations," said chairman and chief executive John Allison.
