Low Mortgage Rates Jump Start Denver-Area Home Sales - 2004-03-24
Home buyers put 3,099 homes under contract, according to a pair of real estate reports issued Tuesday. Sales climbed 33.2 percent from March 2003 and 11.8 percent from February, according to the reports, which are extrapolated through the end of the month.

Brokers attributed the rising demand to a combination of low mortgage rates, increased consumer confidence and seasonal factors.

Congress Considers Mortgage Insurance Deduction - 2004-03-24
Prospective homebuyers trying to scrape together a down payment could get a little help from a tax deduction under consideration in Congress.

The tax break would allow homeowners to deduct the cost of private mortgage insurance (search), charged by banks and lenders when the homebuyer cannot amass a down payment covering 20 percent of the purchase price.
