Identity theft is the fastest-growing crime on the government's list of consumer fraud incidents for the fourth consecutive year, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Forty-two percent of all complaints in 2003 related to the theft of personal information.

You need to be vigilant that no new accounts are opened. Follow that by contacting each of your creditors (credit card companies, mortgage lender, etc). Explain what happened in writing.
