Pent up demand pushes up housing prices - 2004-03-28
House prices increased 0.7 per cent in March, according to property website Hometrack.

"Demand by new buyers is outweighing supply and the upward pressure on house prices continues.

"Low mortgage rates remain, and despite prospects of rises this year, buyers are not deterred from borrowing even higher multiples of their income to afford their desired homes," he added.

Mortgage broker fight - 2004-03-28
The next fight for the major banks may be against mortgage brokers as the big four battle to regain control of the home lending market.

Analysts expect the banks will ask for a change to the way broker commissions are charged in a bid to overcome the massive churning in the industry.

The banks also want to grab back control of the market and the all-important customer relationship.
