Using an IRA to avoid Private Mortgage Insurance - 2004-03-30
Dear Tax Talk,
I am a first-time home buyer and looking to find a way to increase my down payment to avoid the "evil PMI." I would like to take an early distribution from my IRA, which is currently in the form of a rollover IRA. Advice appreciated.

Evil PMI is private mortgage insurance that buyers must pay generally when they put down less than 20 percent.
