For many in middle class, home isn't where the job is - 2004-03-31
When Ralph Greaves became part of the Anne Arundel County police force in 1994, he figured he would keep his South Baltimore townhouse for a few years and then relocate his family to a nice place with a big yard close to work.

And they can't come back to the county to work. They're making good money, but good money doesn't pay a $1,500 mortgage.

Construction rebuilds its economic respect - 2004-03-31
In the middle of a "jobless recovery," New Mexico last year generated positions that pay well, have long-term potential and are hard to transfer overseas.

Unlike past recessions when construction fell harder than other industries, it largely held its own through the 2001 downturn, driven by low mortgage rates and a soaring housing market.
