Mortgage Giants Fannie,Freddie proposal could hurt ratings-analyst - 2004-03-04
The credit ratings of mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could be dragged down if lawmakers go through with a plan to let a regulator -- rather than Congress -- wind down the affairs of either company in a financial meltdown, a ratings analyst indicated on Thursday.

Momentum has accelerated in Congress to toughen supervision of the government-sponsored enterprises after an accounting scandal at Freddie Mac last year.

Centex Fourth Quarter Home Sales Through February Climb More Than 20% - 2004-03-04
Centex Corporation declared that unit sales (orders) at Centex Homes for the first eight weeks of the fiscal quarter were 20.8% higher than sales (orders) versus the same period a year ago.

Dallas, Texas-based Centex, through its subsidiaries, ranks among the nation's leading single-family home builders, non-bank-affiliated mortgage originators and general building contractors. The company also has operations in home services and investment real estate.
