She suggested that families start by finding a reputable lender to give them loan pre-approval. Pre-approval helps buyers determine how large and what type of a mortgage loan they can expect to be approved for and at what interest rate. Most loan pre-approvals have a fixed period of time.

Adjustable-rate mortgages usually best deal - 2004-03-07
When my wife and I opted for an adjustable-rate mortgage over the fixed-rate variety 11 years ago, it was a gamble. How nice, then, to have our judgment confirmed the other day by Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan.

In a recent speech to the Credit Union National Assn., Greenspan said a homeowner with an ARM for the past 10 years could have saved tens of thousands of dollars compared to the cost of a fixed mortgage.
