Which is better: Chapter 13 or 7? - 2004-03-08
Dear Dr. Don,
What is the motivation, if any, is there to filing Chapter 13 vs. Chapter 7? Is there any difference as far as your credit is concerned? Which is better overall if you want to acquire a house in a year or so?

A Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing makes more sense if you're behind on your mortgage payments or car loan because you can structure the repayment plan to pay off the missed payments.

Mortgage arrears climb in December - 2004-03-08
Arrears in payments to mortgage banks reached NIS 3.1 billion in December 2003, compared with NIS 2.72 billion in December 2002, a 14% jump, according to an analysis of bank figures by the economic ministries in Jerusalem.

The proportion of payments in arrears rose 0.25% to 1.94% between December 2002 and December 2003. The figures show that accumulated mortgage payments in arrears by parties entitled to mortgages jumped 23.2% to NIS 1.74 billion in December.
