Woman, son sentenced in mortgage-fraud scheme - 2004-04-02
A federal judge put a mother and son to prison Thursday for running what prosecutors called one of the largest mortgage-fraud scams ever uncovered in Indianapolis.

Brenda Beckwith and her son, JaMichael Watts, helped swindle $2.2 million from banks by buying 20 houses and reselling to "straw" buyers at astronomically higher prices.

Mortgage firm cuts employees - 2004-04-02
That huge announcement about the revival of jobs at a mortgage-processing operation here has ended in disappointment.

Many of the 84 jobs that were briefly brought back are gone. And some people who were laid off are apparently still waiting for their last paychecks to show up from RHM LLC.

''It's back to the drawing board. I'm looking again,'' said Yvonne Currier, a Hyde Park resident.
