Canada's First Quarter Growth Decelerated to 2.4% Pace - 2004-05-31
Canada's economic development decelerated to a 2.4 percent annual rate last quarter as firms cut inventories and export growth weakened, suggesting the Bank of Canada will maintain interest rates at the lowest since 1960.

Consumer spending is stimulating the economy for a fourth year amid job creation and low interest rates. The share of the nation's population with a job is near an all-time high, and mortgage rates are near the lowest since the mid-1950s.
