Given the jump of home prices in most areas of the country over the past few years, potential real estate investors may be wondering if they have missed the boat on profit opportunities.

Keep in mind that real estate is not a liquid investment. It may take weeks or months to sell the property should you decide to do so. If you invest in rental property, you will need to have capital on hand and/or be prepared to set aside a portion of the rental income to cover such things as mortgage, taxes, unexpected repairs and any short-term vacancy loss of income.

The housing market is probably one of the most widely followed markets in the UK. Seven out of ten Britons own their own homes with many looking upon their house as their main investment, and in many cases their only one.

This appreciation has allowed me to increase the equity in my home. Consequently, house prices would need to drop very significantly to catch my attention. Likewise, as long as you continue to pay your mortgage, your lender is not interested in the value of your property.
