Mortgage scam dupes owners here - 2005-01-31
At least three Dane County homeowners seem to have been duped in what the Better Business Bureau calls a "national mortgage elimination scheme" that could end up costing them their homes, local officials report.

"Everyone should be careful," said Jane Licht, Dane County register of deeds. "If somebody offers you something that sounds too good to be true it probably is."

Hundreds lose homes as mortgage costs bite - 2005-01-31
Today, new figures show how home-owners in Peterborough were feeling the squeeze after borrowing too much cash and trying to keep up with rising mortgage rates.

The number of lenders launching legal proceedings to repossess homes in the city rose from 450 in 2003, to 571 last year, a rise of 27 per cent, Government figures have revealed.
