Britain's Best Mortgages - 2005-01-04
Independent financial researcher Defaqto has unveiled its annual survey of mortgage lenders, which shows huge difference in the interest rates charged by leading lenders.

Defaqto looked at the standard variable rates charged during 2004 by the UK's thirty biggest mortgage lenders on a £50,000 interest-only mortgage. (A standard variable rate, or SVR, is the bog-standard rate charged to all borrowers who aren't enjoying a special-rate deal, such as a fixed, discounted, capped or tracker rate.)

Mortgage home lending hits 10-year low - 2005-01-04
Home loan approvals have dropped to their lowest level for nearly a decade, adding further evidence of a slowdown in the housing market.

Figures from the Bank of England showed 77,000 mortgages were approved during November, the lowest number since September 1995 when 74,000 loans were approved.
