Hawaii mortgage business cooling fast - 2005-02-14
With the huge refinancing boom largely over, earnings are tumbling in Hawaii's mortgage business, enough to take some steam out of the superheated housing market.

Already, some firms have started downsizing to adjust to the end of the boom. Others are lending in riskier parts of Hawaii's mortgage market, making loans to people with flawed credit histories and offering products that require only the interest to be paid for the first few years.

Mortgage firm closing; 125 local workers to lose jobs - 2005-02-14
After implementing several rounds of cuts to its work force in 2004, a Charlotte, N.C.-based mortgage company is shutting down, a move that will cost the operation's remaining 125 Louisville call-center workers their jobs.

The employees of Financial ServiceSolutions LLC were informed on Tuesday, Feb. 8, that their positions will be terminated in 60 days, according to Greg Sullins, president and CEO of the North Carolina company.
