More priced out of housing market, study shows - 2005-02-16
Home sales and prices hit record highs in Washington in 2004, and the cost of homes is getting so high that many people -- including Puget Sound area residents -- are being priced out of the market, according to a new study from the Washington Center for Real Estate Research at Washington State University.

"Affordability is going down in this housing market, there is no question about it," said Glenn Crellin, director of the center in Pullman. "When you've got prices rising as rapidly as they are ... it's hard for incomes to keep up that increase."

Mixed News For Bay Area Housing Market - 2005-02-16
Home prices in January surged 20 percent from a year ago. That's according to real estate research firm DataQuick.

The median price for a single-family Bay Area home is greater than $555,000 dollars. DataQuick also says sales reached the highest level for the month since 1989.

Home sales are normally slow at the beginning of the year but researchers saw low interest rates, and an influx of overseas buyers boosted Bay Area sales.
