TAX OFFICE SENDING REFUNDS - 2005-02-23
When the Smith County tax office disburses refunds from the recent Tyler Junior College tax rollback, it will send checks to homeowners - not their mortgage companies, as was previously planned.

"If we sent it to the mortgage companies, most people won't be aware they got it," Tax Assessor/Collector Gary Barber said. "So we thought it would be better to put something into people's hands."

Several Habitat For Humanity Homeowners Angry At Rising Mortgage Rates - 2005-02-23
Every year, Habitat For Humanity constructs the American Dream for many West Texans. But now, some of these affordable homes are too expensive for the new owners.

Habitat For Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds homes for lower income families. But five different homeowners say their mortgage rates continue going up.
