Fed minutes: Interest Rate hike hinges on U.S. economy - 2005-02-23
Federal Reserve policy-makers hinted that despite six boosts, short-term interest rates may still be too low to keep inflation from becoming a problem. The pace of any future hikes, though, would depend on the unfolding economic climate, according to minutes of the Fed's February meeting released Wednesday.

Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan and his colleagues pushed up a key short-term interest rate by one-quarter percentage point to 2.5 percent at that meeting Feb. 1-2.

Global Economy Faces `Serious Threats,' IMF's De Rato Says - 2005-02-23
World economic growth, expected to reach approximately 4 percent this year, is being confronted with ``serious threats and challenges'' requiring urgent action from policymakers.

The world economy is becoming too dependent on the U.S. economy, the world's largest economy, and China to carry its momentum, he said. At the same time, both those nations are facing increasing pressures on their economies.
