What the Orensteins wanted was more space. What they wanted was to build home equity.

David Orenstein said because he and his wife, Melissa, intend to stay in the home for approximately five years, they took out a seven-year adjustable-rate mortgage, which has a low interest rate for the first seven years of the mortgage.
